Where do you get your daily omega-3s? While seafood is a well-known source of omega-3 fatty acids, this isn’t a viable option for everyone. If you’re not a salmon lover, is it possible to get enough omega-3s from plant sources?
The answer is complicated. While plant foods like flaxseed oil, hemp seeds, and chia seeds can be good sources of omega-3s, these plant sources are not very bioavailable (meaning, your body may not be able to extract enough omega-3s from these plant foods to meet your body’s needs). For this reason, those following a vegetarian or vegan diet may benefit from omega-3 supplementation.*
Omega-3 dietary supplements have become popular for supporting healthy inflammatory responses, brain health, heart health, and overall wellness.* For those who avoid seafood, it’s been nearly impossible to find a high-quality, plant-powered omega-3 supplement. Until now!Ultra Pure Vegan Omega SPM+ by Vital Nutrients is the first and only vegan omega-3 fatty acid formula with active SPMs (specialized pro-resolving mediators) plus DPA in the triglyceride form for optimal immune, heart, and brain support.*
What are SPMs?
Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators (SPMs) are also known as resolvins. They are thought to be the most active component of omega-3 fats. SPMs have gained a lot of popularity lately as researchers discover the important roles these omega fatty acid metabolites play. In fact, SPMs may be largely responsible for fish oil’s ability to moderate pain and inflammation in the body. (1,2)*The primary omega-3s in fish oil are EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). While they are the most studied and well-known, EPA and DHA do not work alone. SPMs enhance the activity of these omegas to provide up to 5X more biological activity compared to traditional omega-3 supplements. (3)* More biological activity means targeted brain, heart, and immune system support for you.*
What is DPA?
DPA (docosapentaenoic acid) has also been garnering recent attention. This lesser-known omega is the third most prevalent omega fatty acid found in fish oil. Like SPMs, DPA also influences the way your body uses DHA and EPA. Your body can interconvert EPA, DHA, and DPA. However, they are individually required for optimal health.*
DPA is thought to act as a storage site for DHA, EPA, and other long-chain omega fatty acids. The body can then pull from this reservoir or convert DPA into the form of fatty acid needed. (4) Researchers are examining DPA’s role in healthy aging and cardiovascular health. (5,6)*
The Issue with SPM Supplements
More people than ever are seeking a plant-based omega-3 supplement. Most omega-3 supplements come from fish, especially ones containing SPMs and DPA. If you don’t eat fish, don’t love swallowing large capsules, or are sick of the notorious “fish burps,” then traditional fish oil or SPM supplements are likely not for you.
The Solution: Vegan SPMs
Algae oil (derived from microalgae) has become a popular vegan source of omegas. Algal oil is known as one of the best vegan omega-3 supplements. It provides the same health benefits as fish oil, instead powered by plant-based algae.*
Ultra Pure Vegan Omega SPM+ by Vital Nutrients is the first and only 100% vegan omega-3 fatty acid formula with clinically relevant levels of active SPMs. It contains superior triglyceride forms of vegan DHA and DPA to support optimal absorption and tolerance. Astaxanthin, a carotenoid, is included to provide antioxidant protection for the fragile essential fatty acids.*
Here are just a few benefits of our unique formulation:
- Plant-Powered: Like fish oil sources of omega-3, algae-derived omegas support healthy immune and inflammatory responses, heart health, brain health, cognitive focus, and lipid (cholesterol) metabolism. Say goodbye to fish oil burps, reflux, and odors thanks to the power of algal oil!*
- 40% Smaller: Many vegan omega-3 supplements are still the same size as traditional fish oil capsules. For those who struggle to swallow large capsules, our mini softgels are 40% smaller than traditional fish oil supplements to enhance experience and compliance.*
- 5X More Potent: Our SPMs offer biological activity up to 5X greater than traditional omega-3 supplements. (3)* We use a superior triglyceride form of DHA and DPA for optimal absorption and tolerance.*
- Nutrient-Dense: One serving provides 400 mg of omega-3s, including 75 mg of DPA and 0.1% DHA/DPA-derived SPM levels.*
- Clean & Contains NO contaminants, heavy metals, pesticides, solvents, gluten, dairy, soy, egg, tree nut, peanut, sugar, artificial flavors and colors, coatings, and binders. Gluten-free and non-GMO.
